Pelvic health conditions are a silent epidemic. We’re often told that symptoms are our new normal. While pelvic health issues are common, they are NOT normal. You do not have to live with them. Healing is possible.
At Legacy, you can expect a safe space to be heard and address sensitive issues. Every patient receives one-on-one treatment, and a plan of care that is based on their individual needs and goals. Childcare is provided for that hour appointment.

What You Can Expect
What should I expect on my first visit?
After checking in with the front desk and (possibly) dropping off your child with our childcare provider, your Pelvic Health Physical Therapist will come get you from the waiting room. During the 50-60 min initial appointment, you’ll have an extensive conversation with your PT about your medical history, goals, and any concerns. Then a physical exam will be performed to assess your strength, mobility, and movement patterns. While an internal pelvic floor muscle assessment is a part of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy, it does not typically occur on the 1st visit, and will only be performed later based on your comfort level.
You can also expect education on your body and symptoms, as well as a thorough explanation of therapy diagnosis and treatment plan.
Do sessions include internal assessment or treatment?
They can, but don’t have to. At Legacy, pelvic health physical therapy is always based on what you feel comfortable with. Internal pelvic exams provide valuable information as the therapist is able to assess and often treat the source of the problem. While our pelvic physical therapists are highly trained and experienced with treating pelvic floor muscles internally, we will always honor what feels right for your body. There are many ways to help you reach your goals. Even with internal treatments, we take a whole-body approach, so treatments can also include external manual therapy, personalized exercises, education and setting health goals.
Will I be seen in a gym or private treatment room?
You will typically be seen in a private treatment room with the same physical therapist at each visit. Your privacy and modesty is always a priority. As treatment advances, the gym area may be best for specific exercises, but otherwise all private information and treatments will be behind a closed door.

Will I be given exercises or other homework between sessions?
Yes, you can expect a home exercise program that progresses over time. We view physical therapy as a partnership between patient and therapist, in which we are guiding your healing journey. With pelvic physical therapy, part of the healing process occurs between the sessions.
